if you aren't familiar with his work, Sam Fine is the makeup artist to celebrities such as Iman, Mo'Nique, Tyra Banks, Jennifer Hudson and Vanessa Williams. He is the author of the book Fine Beauty: Beauty Basics and Beyond for African-American Women and most recently the sensational instructional DVD Fine: The Basics of Beauty. he's done countless covers for Essence magazine and among my many favorites is the cover he did with Alek Wek in September 2000:

on Sunday, June 12th at The Makeup Show Chicago I had the amazing opportunity to interview Sam Fine, celebrity makeup artist, with my girl Chicagostyle from The MidWestern Front.
i don't get star struck. i've met celebrities before, they're people, just like me and you, right? well, let me tell you. when i walked into that room and Mr. Sam Fine held out his hand to introduce himself, i lost all sense and sensibility and it took a few seconds for me to remember my own name. i kid you not. i couldn't remember, my own name!!! i laugh now, but in the moment it was so embarrassing. 


Mr. Fine made me feel so at ease and comfortable that by the end of that interview he had become my BFF in my head. in the 10 minutes that we sat with Mr. Fine, we obviously were in the presence of someone who is great at what he does and is admired by so many, but what struck me the most was how humble, approachable, down to earth and kind he is. he wants to share his knowledge and what he has learned on his journey to help us all, especially women of color, "put your best face forward".
